Where MyTeaPal is genuinely better
The journal is mature. MyTeaPal has been iterating on tea logging for longer than Teafinity has existed, and it shows. If your relationship with tea is mostly about recording what you drank, how it tasted and what you thought of it, that is the product built for you.
There is a community, and it is active. A Discord, a Facebook group, themed monthly collections, a stories section. Teafinity has none of that. We ship a brewing app; if you want people to talk to about the shou pu-erh you just opened, we are not where you will find them.
The club actually puts tea in your hands. A subscription box is a genuinely different value proposition from a piece of software. No app can send you leaves in the post.
Where Teafinity is different
Published brewing parameters, not vibes
Every Teafinity tea carries a water temperature in °C and °F, grams per 250 ml, a Western steep time, a caffeine figure in milligrams and a re-steep count. You do not have to install anything to check: the whole tea library and the steeping chart are on this site, free, for every tea. That is the claim MyTeaPal does not make on its site, and it is the one we are most willing to be judged on.
The Gong Fu ladder
Western brewing is one number. Gong Fu is a sequence — a rinse, then five to eleven infusions that each get a few seconds longer than the last. Teafinity ships that whole ladder per tea and times it infusion by infusion, in the app and in the free web gongfu timer. It is the feature most tea apps skip because the data is tedious to assemble.
The camera does the identifying
A friend hands you an unlabelled tin. Point the camera at it and Teafinity names it in about two seconds, then loads that tea's brewing plan. It works best on loose leaf and printed packaging, it shows you its confidence, and it is honest when it is unsure. MyTeaPal does not advertise anything like it.
Which one should you install?
Choose MyTeaPal if…
- You want the monthly box and the themed collections.
- Community — Discord, groups, other people's notes — is a real part of why you drink tea.
- Your logging habit matters more to you than your kettle temperature.
Choose Teafinity if…
- You own tea that deserves to be brewed properly and you keep guessing the parameters.
- You brew Gong Fu, or you want to start and need the ladder handed to you.
- You read in German, French, Dutch, Japanese, Korean or Chinese and want the whole app in that language, not a translated menu.
MyTeaPal is not a competitor we are trying to talk you out of. It is the only other tea app in this comparison with a genuinely mature journal, and if what you want is a tea club, nothing on this page should change your mind. But if you have ever ruined a $15 sachet of Da Hong Pao because you guessed five minutes when it wanted twenty seconds, that is the specific problem Teafinity was built to remove.
